OUR SCHOOL
About Us
Heidi’s School of Dance is a Newcastle dance school, offering a friendly and personal approach to the exciting world of dance, with very successful results.
We encourage students to appreciate the technical importance of dance, balanced with an enjoyment of creative expression within a supportive and nurturing environment.
Our enthusiastic staff acknowledge that not every child who enters a dance class will have a life-long career in dancing, however, other benefits such as developing friendships; self-discipline; self-esteem as well as learning about working as a member of a team, will remain with the students throughout their lifetimes.
Our dance studio offers tuition in Classical Ballet; Jazz; Modern and Contemporary Dance, catering for students from three years of age. Classes are held from Monday to Thursday during School Terms. For more information about classes for you or your child, please contact us.
Concerts
Our annual productions are a fabulous opportunity for students to showcase their improvements and talents to family and friends, as well as gaining invaluable performance skills. Our concert is always a day of fun and excitement for the students and is a perfect celebration for the school.
Students are required to attend no more than two extra rehearsals prior to the concert (times and duration of rehearsals are age appropriate). Concerts are held during weekend daytime hours, with the duration, costume and ticket costs reasonable and realistic.
Prior to the concert, each and every student in the school is presented with a trophy as a reward for their efforts throughout the year. Parents are invited to attend this presentation.
Examinations
Students of Heidi's School of Dance who attend twice weekly are able to participate in yearly examinations or assessments in Classical Ballet if they wish. These examinations follow the British Ballet Organisation syllabus and are generally held in two sessions, at the end of Term Two for juniors and half way through Term Three for seniors.
Examinations are a great way for students to develop confidence and be rewarded for their efforts and accomplishments. Our school prepares students for examinations from Primary to Advanced Two levels, with consistently pleasing results.

Our staff
Studio owner/director: Heidi Mckenzie
Heidi McKenzie (nee Marosszeky) began dancing at the age of three and studied at the Marie Walton Mahon Dance Academy. She studied as a full-time student at the school, completing her Advanced Ballet qualification with the Royal Academy of Dance, before gaining placement at the Queensland University of Technology for their Associated Dance Diploma programme.
Heidi's lifelong dream was to become a dance teacher, and after returning to Newcastle and teaching for a number of schools, she achieved this by opening Heidi's School of Dance in 1995. She is also a mum to two beautiful boys.
Heidi is a member of the British Ballet Organisation and continues to maintain her training through yearly attendance at the National Dance Week. Her students have participated in Starstruck, Dance Festival, McHappy Day, Mattara, the Rock Eistedfodd Challenge and more. Our dancers have also featured in productions such as Weird Al Yankovic and High School Musical. They have been successful in local and state eistedfodds.
Staff members of Heidi's School of Dance are diligently selected for their strong technical knowledge and talent for teaching and reflect Heidi's approach to provide a supportive and caring school for all students.
Heidi and her staff endeavour to pass on their knowledge and love of dance to students in a friendly and nurturing environment.
All our staff are carefully selected to compliment our studio's teaching team and nurture the students love of dance.
